Deceived (Soul Keeper, #1)Deceived by L.A. Starkey
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I was provided with a digital copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

It's extremely tricky to write a synopsis and summary for a pretty interesting book, without giving a lot of its suspense and details away. I am still going to try. :) The story is based on the premise of defying things which are predestined, having the "soul-mate" theme as its pivotal point. Relying heavily on Greek mythological influences, which are blended very effectively into a present-day romance tale, the story revolves around Sam, the fragile and alluring female protagonist of the book. There are two male protagonists, one of whom needs to be chosen by Sam as her soul-mate ("needs to be" is a misleading set of words here!). Does Sam manage to figure out whom she wants her soul to pair up with, or do the mythological evils take over, is what the book takes us through.

The book was mind-blowing. It takes a while for the reader to warm up to the actual plot and then it is thoroughly gripping. I loved the characterisation. Sam's is an absolutely remarkable character - one of the most intriguing and perplexing characters I've come across, in recent times. The narrative deserves special kudos. The seamless weaving of the mythological trails into the modern world was brilliant.

Overall, this was a great read and I highly recommend it!

(Soul Keeper Series #1)
Publication date: August 28th 2014
Genres: Paranormal, Young Adult

They say a soul is the immaterial essence, the animating principle, the actuating cause of an individual life.

But what if you had to share yours with the one person you hated the most?

The soul mate principle states that for every one soul there is another that will recognize its match, hence creating the perfect union.

But what if you had two soul mates, which would you choose?

What if your choices had eternal ramification?

Deceived, the debut novel in the Soul Keeper Series, is a modern day love story about the implications of having more than one soul mate, and having to choose between the two of them. The decisions of the gods has left the next generation, their heirs, torn between fate and reality, and the balance of the future hangs in anticipation of what’s to come.
