The Fortuitous Pen by Cara Addison
My rating: 3 of 5 stars
I was provided with a digital copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
The story revolves around Austin and Brett, an interesting and alluring couple brought together by destiny in the first installment of this series. Having not read book one, I was initially apprehensive about how I would be able to follow this story. But the plot in this works itself out and this book can be read as a stand-alone. Austin moves cities and is a full-time writer, with a doting Brett emotionally supporting her all the way. They settle into life as a couple and discover the complexities that each other's life comes with. As Austin and Brett adjust to life as a couple, they realise that a relationship is a lot more than the initial irresistible attraction and sweet talk. Do they both manage to keep their romance and the flame in their lives alive, overcoming all logistical and societal challenges is what the book takes us through.
The pace of the book was engaging. The storyline was interesting too, although a tad predictable. I would have loved to read more on the idealogies of Austin and Brett, which would have helped the reader empathise with their actions and behaviours more. The narrative was well-handled. Overall, this was an enjoyable breezy romance read and I would definitely recommend this to lovers of romance and drama.

I’m the accidental author.
In so many ways, becoming a published author happened by chance.
For years, I’ve worked in the corporate world. My degrees are in business. Essentially, I’m a problem solver for corporations and government. So, you can imagine how much of a shift it was for me to sit down and write fiction.
During the summer of 2013, I put pen to paper. I let my sexy imagination loose and before I knew it I’d filled a more than a few pages. The characters came to life and a story began to take shape.
And so began, the greatest chapter of my life.
Writing has been cathartic. Becoming published has been exhilarating.
This journey isn’t over. I continue to write, as time permits. Another manuscript is in the works.
