Dreams of the Few by Susan M. Obijiski

Dreams of the Few: Legacy of Dreams, Book IIDreams of the Few: Legacy of Dreams, Book II by Susan Obijiski
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I was provided with a digital copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Being the second instalment in the Legacy of Dreams series, this book takes us through an adventure of dreamer-psychic Brody. Having not read the first book earlier, I was apprehensive about how best I would be able to relate with this one. But the author has designed this as a stand-alone one and even without a recap or backdrop, the reader is still able to get a grasp on the characters and the storyline fairly easily.

Brody is now settled into a blissful wedded life, with his wife and son. Casey Wheeler, rescued in the first book, is now pursuing artistic interests, when suddenly he is brutally thrown into a coma following an accident. When Brody gets a sudden dream about Casey's being in peril, Brody sets off, determined to save Casey before its too late. The journey to find Casey also doubles up as a thinking platform for Brody to retrospect and mull over his own side of things. Does Brody manage to save Casey, is what the book takes us through.

The storyline was fresh and enjoyable. While emphasis is placed on the characterisation of Brody, it would have been great to read about the thoughts and mind-frames in detail of the other characters as well, such as Casey and the doc. I would have liked the pace of the book to have been a tad more brisk.

Overall, this was a good read and I definitely recommend it to lovers of surreality.

My rating for this book: 3.5 stars

Book Description:

Dreams of the Few is the second in the three book Legacy of Dreams series, continuing the journey that began with Dreams of the Many. Once again, renowned New York stage actor Brody Murphy must put aside his life and career, and step into a dream world to rescue Casey Wheeler. After seven years of sobriety, and a new life with his wife and son, Brody is faced with the prospect of returning to the nightmare world he once escaped. But this time the stakes are even higher; without Brody's help, Casey is likely to die. This journey will be the most challenging of Brody's life. No one can help him find Casey and return the boy from the desolate landscape of the dream. While his friends and loved ones attempt to support him from afar, Brody grapples with sobriety, repressed memories, and a lifetime of fears and demons that threaten to sabotage Casey's rescue and the very fabric of Brody's sanity. Can Brody find Casey before it is too late? Can Casey and Brody emerge from the nightmare, whole and unbroken? Dreams of the Few is a story of friendship, love and devotion. It is a reminder that our purpose in life is to learn, and that we learn best from our trials and challenges.
