About UNTOUCHED

New York Times and USA Today bestselling romance author Lauren Hawkeye serves up a captivating story of loss, self-discovery, and deep-seated desire. Some secrets are best left locked away in the past….

Alexa Kendrick has no recollection of the car accident that left her scarred and sent her life careening wildly off course. When the half-sister she thought she’d never meet shows up at her door with an invitation to a new life, Alexa finds herself in Florence, Arizona, a town notorious for being populated with more prison inmates than actual citizens…a town that has done its best to hide its own dark secret.

After Ellie is called out of town, she leaves her sister with the keys to her flower shop and Alexa finds herself swapping lives with her sibling: running Ellie’s business, living in the house left to them both by their absentee father…and forging a smoldering relationship with sexy-as-sin penitentiary officer, Nate Fury—a man with his own demons.

But arranging flowers by day and tangling with the only man who has ever seen her real self by night isn’t enough to silence the mysterious panic that fuels Alexa’s dark dreams. When Nate brings home a book written by an inmate, one describing an unspeakable crime, the shackles binding Alexa’s own lost memories begin to shatter. And as the devastating truth comes to light, she realizes that Nate holds the key to unlocking her past, as well as her heart. Add it to your Goodreads list here! About Lauren Hawkeye

Lauren Hawkeye/ Lauren Jameson never imagined that she’d wind up telling stories for a living… though when she looks back, it’s easy to see that she’s the only one who is surprised. Always “the kid who read all the time”, Lauren made up stories about her favorite characters once she’d finished a book… and once spent an entire year narrating her own life internally. No, really. But where she was just plain odd before publication, now she can at least claim to have an artistic temperament.

Lauren lives in the Rocky Mountains of Alberta, Canada with her husband, toddler, pit bull and idiot cat, though they do not live in an igloo, nor do they drive a dogsled. In her nonexistent spare time Lauren can be found knitting (her husband claims that her snobby yarn collection is exorbitant), reading anything she can get her hands on, or sweating her way through spin class. She loves to hear from her readers!

Book Review -- Untouched by Lauren Hawkeye

Untouched (Florence, Arizona #1)Untouched by Lauren Hawkeye
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

A digital copy of this book was provided to me in exchange for an honest review.

The story is set around Alexa, who is trying to cope up with the trauma of a jarring car accident. Her instinctive self-preservation makes her block the scenes out of her mind, but nobody escapes from memories, as Alexa finds out. When she learns of a half-sister, Alexa decides this is the life break moment that would do her good in terms of a change in locale and a discovery about her own past. When her mom objects vehemently, Alexa is left to wonder if her mom is holding out more than Alexa knows. Determined even more to unlock the secrets, Alexa heads out, only to see that her half-sister needs to rush away on a family emergency, dumping the family's business on Alexa's shoulders. While the bewildered Alexa tries to come to terms with the sudden turn of events, she encounters Nate, a soul she finds more broken than she is. Nate is fighting his demons and has trouble shutting out the image of his partner dying in his arms. While the two are drawn towards each other, will they both be able to surmount their woes and baggages and support each other? Does Alexa manage to find out the reasons behind her mother's apprehensions? These are the questions that the story answers for us.

I loved the characterisation in this book! I specifically loved the way the author managed to keep narrative aesthetically and visually impactful, in line with the fact that Alexa is an artist. As the story is mostly told from her point of view, the narration takes on colourful and artistic hues. But the plot got lost somewhere in the efforts of building up the characters, and does get a tad predictable. Nevertheless, this was still a good read.

I recommend this book to lovers of romantic suspense-filled dramas.

My rating for this book: 3.5 stars

About the Author-
Eric Franklin, Entrepreneur and Author of  Peanut Butter Principles: 47 Leadership Lessons Every Parent  Should Teach Their Kids Eric Franklin had his first taste of leadership during a summer job when at age 16, he was appointed supervisor to over 200 peer employees at his local amusement park. He has been on a mentoring roller coaster ride ever since. Although Eric has held a multitude of distinguished positions over the years and is currently CEO/owner of several successful businesses that operate across the U.S., his core values are as basic to the soul as a peanut butter sandwich is to a hungry appetite.
Eric's formal education has earned him a Bachelor's degree in biology from Hampton University and a Master's in procurement and acquisitions from Webster University. His family and community have been the most influential in imparting upon him the character traits that have enabled him to be so successful.
When Eric isn't busy with writing, business coaching and running several businesses, his ideal scenario for a day would be he, his wife and 3 kids, eating fresh seafood on a tropical island, with of course, the family dog and cat close at hand. An accomplished musician, Eric would end the day by playing a few of his favorite music selections on the piano. Eric also enjoys the simple things in life, like peanut butter.
Eric is a staunch advocate for STEM (Science Technology, Engineering and Math) education and serves on the Southern Maryland Higher Education Council. However, Eric is concerned that with the increased technical proficiency of our students, basic character and life principles are not being taught. He sought to develop resources would be embraced by parents and other mentors and shared with the young people in their lives to ensure a firm foundation for the next generation of great leaders.
