Book Review -- Gracie's Secret by Lorelie Rozzan

Gracie's Secret by Lorelie Rozzano
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

A digital copy of this book was provided to me in exchange for an honest review.

I found this children's fiction thoroughly amusing and enjoyable - so much so that it left me with my thoughts provoked at the end. The tale revolves around the nine-year-old precocious Gracie. Thrown in with problems too heavy for her age, she is psychologically much more mature than her peers. She has a lot of self-questioning moments when she is left wondering about the meaning and motives of many things. The main point that eats her head is the uncertainty of whether her family will be in peace and bliss ever again. Although with a child for the protagonist, the book discusses grown-up issues such as divorce, addiction and their psychological influence. The book also puts these issues in perspective by bringing to light the impact that such issues have on the children of the family. By showing the world how a child is left to feel insecure and fearful of everything, because of a troubled home life, the book leaves a strong message.

I would definitely recommend this book as a read for social awareness and understanding home issues.

Book Review -- The Accidental Assassin by Nicole Chase

The Accidental AssassinThe Accidental Assassin by Nichole Chase
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I was provided with a digital copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Ava Mckenzie, is a simple next-door girl, who gets caught up in a terrifying murder for which she is responsible. Owen Walker is a ruthless and a very famous assassin, who finds himself in the amusing situation of having to help the girl who has run over a "mark". Thrown in to a ring of fire by the sudden turning points in their lives, Ava and Owen are strongly drawn towards each other, but are in a situation where they need to save their lives from horrid dangers before they can decide on a future together.

I was pleasantly surprised with the details in the characterisation that Chase has adopted in this book. For instance, Owen's character is developed piece by piece and how he has evolved into who he is, has been written very well. It helps the reader empathise with his decision to help Ava. With a brisk pace, the book blends many genres at once - there is a lot of suspense, romance, action and adventure - all spaced out evenly and enjoyably. I finished the book in one go - and was a bit disappointed that the book got over when it did! Chase's writing is so captivating that it's really hard to not want to read more of her books.

I highly recommend this book to lovers of multi-genre books, mixing romance with action and suspense.

Book Review -- Bound by Melody Anne

Bound (Forbidden, #1)Bound by Melody Anne
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I was provided with a digital copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

This is a romance book, stronger on the sensual side, but replete with a good plot line and memorable characters. The story revolves around the protagonists, Jewell Weston and Blake Knight. While Jewell is on the verge of being a pauper, Blake is incredibly rich. Jewell is made a situational prisoner when, with no other choice left to financially provide for her brother, she resorts to becoming an escort at an escort services firm. Blake is emotionless on the surface who pays a visit to the firm and ends up choosing Jewell as his escort for a week. Bewildered and in completely strange territory, Jewell has no option but to go along. Blake and Jewell are drawn to each other, but nevertheless are each fighting their demons from the past. What befalls them, is what the tale narrates.

While the storyline superficially brings to mind that of another popular series of sensual romance trilogy, the author has carefully carved the characters and the scenes to avoid resemblance to the other. The pace is brisk, but nevertheless, the abrupt and cliffhanger ending came as a surprise - which I am presuming is what the author intended to have - to have the readers eagerly waiting for the sequel. I would have preferred to have more read more in depth about the two main characters - Jewell and Blake, and more on how their deeply buried secrets shape their attitudes towards life and each other. Regardless, I still enjoyed Anne's writing, which had a mix of wry humour and emotionally dramatic intensity strewn all over.

I would recommend this book to lovers of sensual romance genres.

Book Review -- Raindrops on Roses by Millenia Black

Raindrops on Roses (Favorite Things Trilogy #1)Raindrops on Roses by Millenia Black
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

A digital copy of this book was provided to me in exchange for an honest review.

This book was an enjoyable emotion-filled romance drama. Veronica Bauer, the legendary and enigmatic Hollywood actor passes away, having started and run the Favorite Things group of boutique hotels. Veronica's funeral is where the two protagonists, Michael and Veronica's grand daughter, Priscilla meet each other. Although they are instantly drawn towards each other, Priscilla is blissfully unaware that Michael has been in a long-time relationship with his high school sweetheart, which has lasted for ten years. While Michael, unable to take Priscilla off his mind, tries to figure out how to end his relationship with his high-school sweetheart, Amber, does Priscilla get to know the truth, and does everyone involved find what they are looking for? This is what the book takes us through, weaving the tale around what price one pays for unable to keep one's heart tamed.

This book is the first in the Favourite Boutique trilogy, and I'm already looking forward to the next one in the series. Such is the impact the characters create in the mind. Their emotional turmoil and the pulls of the hearts are well narrated - especially Priscilla's - her bewilderment, the pain from betrayal and the helplessness. I found the pace of the book to be just right. I finished the book in one sitting.

I would recommend this book to lovers of emotional and romantic dramas.

Book Description:

Meet Grace. At nine years old she has a big secret. Grace knows first-hand that life can be difficult. Her parents aren't very happy. Their arguing is giving her a stomach ache. She spends a lot of time alone, worrying. Are her parents problems her fault? Had she done something wrong? Grace pretends everything is fine, but it's not.
